True Design
What is True Design?
It is three things. True Design is always original – never a template. True Design is always complete – never any bolt-ons. True Design is always lasting – no built-in obsolescence.
True Design is the natural symmetry within systems between their smallest component and their largest expression. True Design is the faculty of deconstructing and reconstructing this symmetry.
Not only is this design now absent in our world, but we have largely forgotten how to put it together. We are not teaching it, and we don’t know how. In the software arena, point solutions pretend to be platforms. Legacy landscapes are fragmented. We find ourselves having to knit everything together – something which should never have been necessary.
Education, come to think of it, is essentially about improving things for ourselves.
